The educational webinars have prompted candid discussions among attendees and , an engaged group eager to address policy developments and shape the future of the justice ecosystem.

Below are brief recaps of our presentations and an early look at tomorrow鈥檚 webinar.

Ethics of Generative AI

I co-presented with David Sachar, director of NCSC鈥檚 Center for Judicial Ethics. We covered the ethical considerations surrounding generative AI technologies.

Our session explored the core issues judges and legal professionals should consider when navigating the intersection of law and technology. We examined legal frameworks and standards related to AI and generative AI and discussed what new guidelines may be necessary. We also shared practical tools and resources for managing generative AI-related issues.

Our goal was to guide attendees as they confront the ethical complexities of generative AI. There was great engagement and feedback from our session. For example, an attendee said, 鈥淭his session helped me feel a little less fearful about AI!鈥

Ethics of Navigating AI in Court Systems

David and I also hosted a follow-up webinar, . We discussed how the integration of AI in court systems promises enhanced efficiency and decision-making capabilities yet raises significant ethical and legal challenges that must be addressed to maintain public trust and uphold the principles of justice.

Our aim was to assist attendees in developing an AI infrastructure to ensure that technologies are used responsibly and ethically. We emphasized guiding principles, standards, and protocols to help courts prevent misuse, bias, and potential harm. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback. An attendee said: 鈥淚 would not change a thing. Thank you for putting together this amazing and necessary series on AI.鈥

How to Use Prompt Engineering

I鈥檓 happy to share the next presentation will be led by my colleague Valerie McConnell, senior director, CoCounsel, 成人VR视频, and Catherine Sanders Reach of the North Carolina Bar Association. On Nov. 6, they鈥檒l present .

They鈥檒l highlight the basics of prompt engineering, share best practices for writing effective prompts, discuss the common challenges and solutions in legal AI prompting, and explain how to apply AI prompting techniques to legal and court-specific cases.

I recommend (or the recording) to explore prompt engineering in the legal space.

It鈥檚 been an honor to be part of the AI Policy Consortium for Law and Courts. I hope you鈥檒l join our group of top judicial officers, leading AI experts, and legal professionals as we examine how AI in general 鈥 and generative AI in particular 鈥 is shaping state, federal and international court systems.

Responsible AI implementation starts with human-in-the-loop oversight /en-us/posts/innovation/responsible-ai-implementation-starts-with-human-in-the-loop-oversight/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 13:01:37 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=innovation_post&p=62810 As vice president of Responsible AI and Data at 成人VR视频, I’ve had a front-row seat to the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in the realm of generative AI (GenAI). The past year and a half has seen unprecedented advancements in this field, with the allure and potential capabilities of large language models (LLMs) taking centre stage for business leaders and society at large.

GenAI technology has proven its readiness, but pressing questions now revolve around ethics, and governance. As companies rush to implement AI solutions, it’s vital we consider how we implement AI.

Keeping humans in the loop is a key aspect to our strategy employed in our responsible AI practice at 成人VR视频. Human-in-the-loop is critical at every stage: design, development, and deployment. For instance, we require developers and product owners to include the details of their human oversight process in the model documentation template. Post-deployment, teams are dedicated to human-in-the-loop training and monitoring.

Human involvement is also crucial when considering the AI models performance, including tracking model drift and overall performance metrics. We have hundreds of advanced subject matter experts review the outputs of our AI systems. User feedback, gathered through human reviewers, helps ensure that our models continue to perform as intended.

Beyond improving the technical aspects of AI systems, keeping humans in the loop serves another vital purpose: it reassures our workforce that they remain critical to the company’s success. As we navigate the AI future, it’s important to remember that every technological advancement throughout history has required us to strike a balance between human skills and new tools. AI is no different. By keeping humans in the loop, we can leverage the strengths of both human intelligence and AI, optimizing our processes while maintaining the critical elements of human judgment, creativity, and ethical oversight.

It’s not just about making our AI systems more accurate or reliable, it’s about creating a future where technology enhances human capabilities rather than replace them. That’s the kind of responsible AI implementation we should all strive for.
